last call for in-person Solstice ceremony

Hello, dear ones -

Just a quick note that today is the last day to register for the Summer Solstice ceremony, held at Arterra Wines in Delaplane, VA this Friday, June 19. We'll begin promptly at 6:30pm.

It's an intimate group so far, which feels right.

I'm starting to feel the energy building a bit as we near. It feels to me like a dropping in and homecoming all at the same time. A remembering how to connect with our own roots. A sacred pause before the busyness of harvest and the waning of the year. Joyful. Silly. Moving. Heartfelt. Meaningful.

Jason will share a bit about growing grapes and stewarding land. Sandy will share a bit about ritual and the process of co-creating with Mystery.

I'll be sharing old Scottish and Welsh stories of finding treasure, of trees that dance on the shortest night. And of long journeys into unknown territory to become the one who can win the girl and the castle. They're animist tales. Tales to remind us of the magic and wonder of life, but also to explore our own relationship with nature. And to help us remember what it is to be with uncertainty and come out the other side stronger, richer, and more alive.

There will be the opportunity to release things to the fire and surrender more deeply to how Mystery wants to dance with you in your own life.

And there will be plenty of room left for the things we can't plan for, but probably need.

P.S. The other day I got together with some lovely yoga teachers and healers connected with Mind Your Body Oasis (where I have my next in-person workshop on June 27th) to begin celebrating summer and solstice.

Towards the end of our sweet gathering, I picked up a rain stick and as it started to sound, a little tree frog who had been quiet the whole time above our heads started to croak back to it. Others in the trees around joined in for a bit. And I let the rain stick and the frog talk to each other.

It reminded me of the beginning of the Grimms Brothers' Sleeping Beauty where the frog is the one who finally tells the bathing Queen she'll have the child she's been longing for. This is a potent moment - frogs, life-giving waters, and the promised arrival of something new.

And here we stand at (in the Northern Hemisphere) the summer solstice. The pause of the life-giving sun at its peak, before the Land yields her harvest - assuming she's received enough water. And the frogs are reminding me of this story of fertility, labor, and right timing.

Our ancestors have been using story and music to remember our place in the natural world and the rhythm of aliveness for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of years.

Hi! I'm Kate - an intuitive, medicine woman, and guide for embodied Presence

Are you a compassion warrior, culture worker, and rebel who cares deeply about humanity; who's tired of doing all the “right things” and still getting what you’re trying to avoid; and who feels trapped between burning it all down or dying but would rather be wildly, and sacredly alive? I'm an animist and ancestral wisdom guide; ceremonialist, and empath. And I love guiding other humans who want to use their burnout and purpose anxiety as a jumping-off point to journey into their shadows and the shadows of modern society in order to de-armor their hearts; remember a deeper, wilder sense of belonging to the world; and reclaim the rich and sacred spark of their aliveness. This newsletter contains wisdom nuggets, podcast episodes, and invitations to paid and free offerings from my business. All in support of remembering a more animist and land-based culture; holding firm to our humanity in a dehumanizing world; and living with compassion, vulnerability, and reverence.

Hello, dear ones - Like "community" or "nervous system regulation," the word "ceremony" is a big buzz word in the wellness and spiritual spaces right now. There are cacao and other plant medicine ceremonies and moon gatherings. Every retreat seems to promise "ceremony" as being part of it. And what about weddings? Aren't they ceremonies, too? (Even though I've experienced some that sure didn't feel like a meaningful or spiritual experience...) As someone who is stepping into offering...

Hello, dear ones - Summer is ripening in my corner of the world right now, though it's been a strange one. Some days, unseasonably cool. Others, unseasonably hot. Drought, then a week of steady rain. The Earth seems to be mirroring back to us just how much we've lost the middle way. How much it's become normal for us to swing between extremes. To think only of destinations and speed up or zone out the journey between. I have some travel coming up in July and August and I was debating between...

Hello, dear ones - Happy Bealtainn (on the Gregorian calendar and in the Northern Hemisphere) and Full Moon in Scorpio (in the Tropical zodiac). Many of our ancient ancestors seem to have recognized two main seasons - summer and winter. The light half of the year and the dark half. Their understandings of what this means precisely would have varied based on how the seasons showed up for them on the lands where they lived. But in the far north Gaelic world, they marked these transitions not on...
